As Day 2 of March Madness draws to a close, we’ve witnessed four upsets yesterday, with a total of 11 lower sees teams making it through. Along with yet another high-scoring game surpassing the 200-point mark. Amidst the chaos, the top 1 and 2 seeded teams have managed to hold their ground, securing their spots in the next round. With each game delivering crazy moments and unpredictable outcomes, the excitement of the tournament is great this year. Stay tuned as the madness continues to unfold, but first! A little recap!
Northwestern (9) vs FAU (8): FAU was a mess this year. Somehow this went to OT after FAU was able to claw their way back. With a great chance to win in regular time, FAU’s PG lazily chucks up a bad three and we are off to OT. NW takes over in OT and just couldn’t miss, great finish by NW. Final score 77-65.
Colgate (14) vs Baylor (3): Classic clean up job here. Baylor taking this game right from the tip off. Final score 92-67.
Purdue (1) vs Grambling (16): I thought the Cinderella story may happen here but the big man on Purdue is just too much to handle, lots of foul trouble from Grambling as a result. Final score 78-50.
Longwood (16) vs Houston (1): We’ll keep this one short because this was a tough game… Houston won, by a lot. Final score 86-46.
Western KY (15) vs Marquette (2): Number 2 seed doing what they need to do. Smooth game for Marquette because they we’re able to get a lot of threes in the air. If a team can lock this down I think they’d be in trouble. Final score 87-69.
New Mexico (11) vs Clemson (6): Clemson Tigers had a great game as a team total of 8 players scoring with 13 off the bench. Will be nice see how they fair later
Stetson (16) vs Uconn (1): Another runaway as expected, Uconn handling business. Final score 91-52.
Vermont (13) vs Duke (4): I had fun watching this game, it was super competitive and seemed like it could’ve went either way. Duke come out on top catching a could good one sided runs when it mattered. Final score 64-47.
TCU (9) vs Utah State (8): This was a sweet team game by Utah, great ball movement and no one is afraid to make an extra pass because everyone can shoot! 22 team assists, 8/19 3pt, 14/15 freethrows. Awesome team for an upset in the second round perhaps. Final score 88-72.
Texas A&M (9) vs Nebraska (8): really wanted Nebraska to win this one because the PG is a character! Little Japanese kid that has so much energy and was knocking it down! The shots cooled down in the second half unfortunately and Texas takes the dub
UAB (12) vs San Diego St (5): What a sweet game to watch, nice to see in round 1 because you never know what youll get with the matchups. San Diego put up a great game all the way up until 10 minutes left. Losing about a 10 point lead to then go down by a few! Neck and neck finish going back and forth in the last few minutes. UAB defiantly had it within grasp but the spark fizzled out when they turned the ball over a few times without even a shot on net… Final score 69-65.
Charleston (13) vs Alabama (4): Wow… I seriously though this was going to be a wild comeback and a funny one. Alabama put the bench in, perhaps a little early. With a 30pt lead at about the 4 minute mark, the bench started to get some minutes just as Charleston started launching threes. Reeling the lead back but just not enough, game ends 109-96 for Bama.
Colorado (10) vs Florida (7): This was a sick game! Right till the end! Florida lead the majority of the first half and then Colorado in the second. Colorado got to the line 33 times making 28 of them! That was the winner right there… They were simply outscored on everything else but very much won on free throws! Final score 102-100! Second 200pt game of the night.
Upsets!!
James Madison (12) vs Wisconsin (5): Hot start by James Madison, 10-2 run right off the rip. The was a great upset, completely handled by Madison getting steal after steal. Wisconsin had a tough time just controlling the basketball, 20 turnovers… Yeah that just wont do. Madison takes this one, 72-61
Grand Canyon (12) vs St Mary’s CA (5): Hot start for both teams and then just kind of chilled for a bit going back and forth. Second half started with back and forth threes and quick transition baskets. Slowy though, you could see Saint Mary’s start to slip. Crand Canyon got fouled so many times going to the rim, 28/36 from the line. Again, this is another case where free throws won it. All other shooting stats go to Saint Mary’s. Final score 75-66 for GC.
Yale (13) vs Auburn (4): This was the game of the night! And I didn’t get to watch it because it was on so damn late… This upset also upsets me because it ruins my bracket so Ill just be here typing away from now on lol. Auburn looked great all game. They would go up by 10-12 and then Yale would suck back the lead to just a few points. This was only the case until 2 minutes left when #4 from Yale heat up and took the lead with a three, just 2 minutes to play. Yale in early bonus gets the lead to 4. Auburn comes down, foul, and-one! With a clank off the rim and about 3 chucks at the rim, nothing drops… Auburn has burnt me yet again…
Well, I need a break after all that. Thankfully there is less games from here on out! Here are the scores!
| 1 | Sarah | 25 |
| 2 | Bob | 25 |
| 3 | Jeff | 24 |
| 4 | Madi | 24 |
